Kart racing is an exciting sport for hobbyists and aspiring professional drivers alike with machines that can go over 100 mph and pull up to 3g’s in a corner. Kart racing offers incredible bang-for-your-buck fun, but how do you get started? Unser Racing is here to help.
The first thing to consider is the chassis, which can come in a variety of different sizes and types. The size and type of the chassis you use will directly relate to your age (youth or adult) and your type of engine package. There are 3 main sizes of karts:
- Kid Kart (ages 5-8)
- Cadet Kart (Ages 7-13)
- Full Size Kart (Ages 13+)
You will also find chassis with 4-wheel brakes and some with rear brakes only. Front brake karts are for shifter engines, and rear brake karts are for single speed engines, whether they are 2 or 4 stroke.
In the state of Colorado there are 3 widely supported engine categories for both kids and adults:
- Briggs LO206 or Clone 4-stroke engines
- Rotax TaG (Touch and Go 2-stroke)
- Honda Shifter (125cc 2-stroke)
